Recovery After Sedation Dentistry: What to Expect

Knowing what recovery looks like helps you plan your day and feel confident about choosing sedation. For most patients, bouncing back is straightforward with a little preparation.
Right After Your Visit
With nitrous oxide, effects fade within minutes. With oral or IV sedation, you will feel drowsy for several hours, so you must arrange a ride home and plan to rest for the remainder of the day.
The First 24 Hours
Avoid driving, alcohol, and important decisions until the sedation fully clears. Stick to soft foods, stay hydrated, and follow any procedure-specific instructions we provide.
Getting Back to Normal
Most patients feel completely normal by the next morning. If you have any questions during recovery, our Altamonte Springs area patients can always reach out to our team.
